Closest focus (at 50mm, F8) is only 14cm from outermost edge of the lens. Focus on the program wheel of the camera.

I wanted the ultra-compact SEL P1650, although it's an APS-C lens, just for comparison. Of course it's possible to crop yourself in case of. Seen the prices of Sony full frame lenses, this is an inexpensive all-purpose alternative if you don't need full format. Wide open it is a bit soft, otherwise image quality is quite good. The lens is extremely compact and lightweight. For simple private use it's o.k. and much easier to handle than a legacy lens.
